How to Get There
While in high school, it is also important to participate in things such as HOSA, or other events near you that allow you to strengthen your passion for forensics, and ensure it is the field you want to pursue. Additionally, you could even reach out to a forensic scientist in your area, or anyone who specializes in something you find most interesting, and just ask them what their job is like. Not only does this give you valuable information, but is also a method of networking.

Each forensics sub pathway usually branches off when obtaining your master’s degree, or when getting specific on-the-job training and certifications. But, for an ME, the pathway branches off after completing your bachelor's degree and getting accepted into medical school. Only then will you have a possibility of getting matched into a residency program for medical examiners/forensic pathologists - or the individual who performs an autopsy.

Ultimately, there are many ways to become a forensic scientist, but everyone will generally take the same pathway.
